A new Cebu cafe is serving up affordable croissants and specialty coffee while building its brand around a familiar Cebuano value: resilience.
Padayon Croissants and Coffee officially opened Saturday, Sept. 12, at Level 4 of Ayala Malls Central Bloc in Cebu IT Park, offering specialty coffee and croissants in a variety of flavors.
The cafe’s name, “Padayon,” means to continue, reflecting the brand’s message of moving forward despite life’s challenges.
Don Macchiatos Group of Companies (DMGC) Chief Operating Officer Ariel Alegado said the concept draws inspiration from the resilience of Cebuanos.
“We know that Cebuanos are resilient so this Padayon Cafe symbolizes thay in every aspect in our life, we continue,” Alegado said.
Among the cafe’s croissant flavors are Biscoff Crunch, Mango Royale, Pistachio Kiss, Citrus Creme and Strawberry Confetti.
Each croissant costs P69, while customers can also buy three pieces for P185, six for P325 or a dozen for P510.
The pastries are paired with specialty coffee made from specially sourced beans, giving customers coffee and patisserie options in one location.
Padayon is part of DMGC’s expansion into the pastry and cafe market after the group gained attention for its P39 coffee offering.
Founder Marc Anthony Abangan said the group hopes to eventually bring the concept beyond Cebu.
“We hope to expand this nationwide. And the goal is to go globally,” Abangan said.
The cafe also features a visible kitchen, allowing customers to watch the croissants being prepared while they dine.
Yaoto Architects + Partners designed the interior, with architects Farina Yaoto and Eugene Yaoto behind the concept.
The opening drew local personalities and guests, including Cebu City Vice Mayor Tommy Osmeña, actors and entrepreneurs Kaye Abad and Paul Jake Castillo, Ungart, Doc Xavier, Thelma and Randolph, among others.
Castillo said the establishment reflects the growing presence of local brands with their own identity and concepts.
“It’s very nice to see local brands nga local brands nga ingon ani najud siya og nawng. Padayon ang Congratulations,” Castillo said.
The cafe also attracted customers on its opening day, including longtime friends Anna and Ysa, who saw the new establishment as a potential place to meet and spend time together.
Anna said she liked the cafe’s cozy atmosphere and its rattan tables and chairs. She also cited the variety of croissant flavors and their price.
“For P69 and you get different flavors sa croissant… First try nako and i want to go back again,” Anna said.
Ysa praised the croissants for their texture and taste while also highlighting the cafe’s interior.
“For me, aesthetic kaayo ang ambiance,” Ysa said.
The two friends also praised the cafe’s customer service after their first visit.
The management team behind Padayon includes DMGC Chief Executive Officer Bethel San Juan, Alegado and Operations Manager Edclar Loga.
For the group, Padayon is intended to carry its message of perseverance alongside its coffee and pastry offerings, using its name and concept to encourage customers to keep moving forward.
Padayon Croissants and Coffee is open daily at Level 4 of Ayala Malls Central Bloc in Cebu IT Park, Cebu City, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday to Saturday.
