DOT Central Visayas in 2022: To Introduce New Pilgrimage Tours in Cebu

The Department of Tourism – Central Visayas, Archdiocese of Cebu and the Order of St. Augustine of the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño, might have a new travel package to offer for the tourists in Cebu. In celebration with the commemoration of the 500 Years of Christianity in the Philippines, this long-planned project finally, will be implemented now. This project aims boost and elevate the increasingly fading tourism trademarks that our historic churches may have contributed through the years. DOT plans to invite and engage more tourist, local or international, to visit our world-renowned churches, monastery and other historical Christian landmarks, Cebu has to offer, in the hopes that it will boost the local economy and/or the entirety of Cebuano Tourism, which was really hit badly by COVID-19, followed by Super-typhoon Odette. This said tour package will be a 2-days/1-night tour. Where the DOT plans to take guests to scenic routes around Southern part of Cebu. Aside from church visits, guests will also engage in different activities that are unique to each town/municipality, to showcase the various features each place has to offer. In celebration of the 500th year of arrival of the Holy Image of the Señor Santo Niño in Cebu, the tour shall start at the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño with a mass, to which after shall visit the following heritage churches: St. Catherine of Alexandria Church (Carcar City), Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Michael the Archangel Church (Argao), San Guillermo de Aquitania Church (Dalaguete), Nuestra Senora del Patrocinio de Maria Church (Boljoon), St. Gregory the Great Parish Church (Ginatilan) and Shrine of Sta.Ana Church (Barili).

The tour doesn’t just stop there, the guest shall also take the other option, wherein they also get a chance to visit Marian Pilgrimages Site in Metro Cebu. This one-day tour will take pilgrims to the following Marian Churches in the Metro: National Shrine of Nuestra Señora Virgen dela Regla Parish Church (Lapu-Lapu City), Archdiocesan Shrine of our Lady of Lourdes (Labangon, Cebu City), Archdiocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe (Guadalupe, Cebu City) and Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church – Redemptorist (Camputhaw, Cebu City). While visiting the churches, pilgrims will pray the Holy Rosary culminating at the final church visited. Perfect for those families who wants to spend their Lenten Season closer to God, and feel the real essence and ambience of being a true Cebuano Christian.

More ambitious tourism projects are to come in Cebu as for the Regional Office is planning to develop more pilgrimage circuits such as Marian Pilgrimage and Heritage Churches Tours in Northern and Southern Cebu, and Camino de Santiago Walks.
