Former Mayor Jerry Treñas shared an aerial shot of the expansive mangrove area in Iloilo City, emphasizing the importance of protecting this natural resource as a response to the worsening effects of climate change.
“We must protect this natural asset as we confront the growing challenges of climate change,” he said.
Treñas highlighted that mangroves have long served as nature’s fortress for coastal communities, protecting them from flooding, erosion, and pollution.
He added that these areas also provide critical habitats for wildlife and contribute to climate mitigation.
