The volcanic island of Camiguin has earned a prestigious spot on The New York Times’ annual travel list, ranking No. 37 among the “52 Places to Go in 2026.”
Recognized as a “water lover’s paradise,” the island is praised for its natural wonders, including black-sand beaches, hot and cold springs, waterfalls, white sandbars, and thriving marine life such as neon clams and sea turtles. Despite its small size, Camiguin holds no traffic lights but boasts lush peaks, coconut palms, and a rich local culture highlighted by its sunken cemetery, eco-farm tours, and the annual Lanzones Festival.
Recent infrastructure improvements such as the widening of its 40-mile circumferential road and the upcoming opening of its first beachfront boardwalk in Mambajao are set to enhance accessibility and visitor experience. The island is also expanding its sports tourism offerings with events like a new triathlon scheduled for May.
Camiguin shares the list with other notable destinations including Revolutionary America (No. 1), Warsaw (No. 2), Bangkok (No. 3), and Melbourne (No. 49), marking another proud moment for Philippine tourism on the global stage.
