Four men were arrested after authorities seized an estimated ₱2.6 million worth of alleged smuggled cigarettes during an operation in Vallehermoso, Negros Oriental, early Saturday morning, July 4.
According to the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NOrPPO), the suspects were traveling in four vehicles and allegedly attempted to evade police checkpoints. However, the vehicles figured in separate road accidents in different areas of Vallehermoso, leading to the suspects’ arrest.
Police recovered 29 master cases and 1,184 reams of the alleged smuggled cigarettes during the operation.
The arrested individuals, reportedly from Misamis Oriental, Lanao del Sur, and Negros Occidental, are now under police custody while authorities continue their investigation and prepare the appropriate charges.
