Government: expect more wage hikes nationwide

The government expects more wage increases for Filipino workers as regional wage boards continue reviewing possible salary adjustments following the approval of an P85 daily wage hike in the National Capital Region (NCR), the Palace said Wednesday.

Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. assured workers that wage increases would continue as the administration focuses on improving labor welfare.

“Magtutuloy-tuloy na ang pagtaas ng sahod ng mga manggagawa sa Pilipinas,” Castro said, quoting Marcos during a Palace press briefing.

Castro said the President has ordered the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards (RTWPBs) to continue studying possible wage adjustments in other regions.

“Sa utos ni Pangulong Marcos Jr., patuloy ang pag-aaral na ginagawa ng Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards upang magpatupad ng salary increase sa iba pang rehiyon,” she said.

She added that additional wage increases in other regions may be implemented in the coming months or before the end of 2026, as wage boards assess possible adjustments.

The Palace official said the government has recorded the highest number of wage increases over the past four years, which she described as part of the administration’s efforts to improve the welfare of Filipino workers.

Castro said Marcos considers the protection of workers’ welfare among the administration’s priorities, particularly through efforts to promote higher wages and better living conditions for employees.

She said the wage-setting process remains under the regional tripartite system, where wage boards study and determine possible adjustments based on their respective areas.

Since 2023, the average increase per wage order has reached seven percent, Castro said. With the latest P85 daily wage hike approved in the NCR, the total approved wage increase for workers has reached P210.

The latest adjustment in the NCR followed previous wage increases issued through the region’s wage board, while other regions continue to evaluate their own wage petitions and economic conditions.

Castro said the administration remains committed to pursuing measures that support workers while allowing the wage boards to continue their review process for possible increases nationwide.
