PINAMUNGAJAN, Cebu — A theft suspect was arrested after a dramatic chase inside and outside Pinamungajan Central Elementary School on July 16, 2026, leading to the recovery of a teacher’s stolen belongings.
According to the Pinamungajan Municipal Police Station, the incident occurred at around 4:50 p.m. when a public school teacher discovered that her brown sling bag had been stolen from her classroom. The bag contained ATM cards, government-issued identification cards, and ₱3,000 in cash.
Police said the suspect allegedly entered the classroom while the teacher was occupied, took the bag, and attempted to flee. The victim immediately shouted for help, prompting nearby police officers and concerned citizens to respond.
A chase ensued as the suspect ran toward the shoreline, where he allegedly threw the stolen bag into the sea in an attempt to dispose of the evidence. Responding officers eventually apprehended the suspect and recovered the victim’s belongings from the water.
The suspect was brought to the Pinamungajan Municipal Police Station for documentation and custodial procedures. Authorities are preparing appropriate theft charges against him.
Cebu Police Provincial Office Director PCOL Abubakar Udang Mangelen Jr. commended the responding officers and civilians who assisted in the operation, emphasizing the importance of swift police response and community cooperation in preventing crime and ensuring public safety.
