Additional police personnel have been deployed to three public schools in Mandaue City following online threats targeting students, as authorities strengthened campus security while investigating the posts.
The Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) increased its security presence in the identified schools on Monday, Aug. 3, after coordinating with the Department of Education (DepEd) Mandaue City Division.
DepEd Mandaue Division Legal Officer Atty. Marinel Oro said the division immediately sought police assistance after receiving reports of threats circulating on social media.
“We received information about security threats involving some of our schools. Immediately after learning about them, we coordinated with the Mandaue City Police Office. With the assistance of the PNP, we conducted a coordination meeting to identify the measures we needed to implement to prevent any untoward incidents,” Oro said.
Barangay officials also provided additional security support to the affected schools.
The reported social media posts contained messages threatening violence against students, including references to targeting learners from Grade 7 to Grade 12.
Despite the threats, face-to-face classes continued after DepEd and the police assessed the situation and determined that the strengthened security measures were sufficient.
Oro said schools were instructed to immediately report any security concerns or suspicious information to the Division Office to allow faster coordination with law enforcement agencies.
“Good kaayo ang PNP kay they are willing and able to assist. Immediately pagkahibaw nila, nihatag dayon sila og assistance sa atoa,” she said.
The PNP has yet to identify those responsible for the posts and continues to investigate the source and credibility of the threats.
Oro said DepEd is taking the matter seriously and will continue coordinating with authorities.
“Dili gyud na nato ibutang ra sa daplin nga pasagdaan. Always we coordinate with the PNP,” she said.
Schools have also tightened existing security measures by increasing police visibility, coordinating with barangay officials, and implementing stricter inspection procedures.
“Ang nakanindot, naa na gyud na sila daan, pero karon gipahugtan pa gyud nato ang mga ingon ana nga security measures,” Oro said.
Authorities continue to remind the public to report suspicious online activities and avoid spreading unverified information that may cause unnecessary alarm.
