A birthday visit brought together two families long associated with Philippine politics, with Malacañang saying the recent meeting between First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and actress Kris Aquino showed that the two have a good relationship.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro made the statement Tuesday after Aquino visited Araneta-Marcos with her sons, Josh and Bimby, ahead of the First Lady’s birthday on Aug. 21.
“Nakita naman natin kung ano ‘yung pahiwatig ng pagbisita ni Ms. Kris Aquino at ng kanyang mga anak. Nagpapahiwatig ito na maganda ang kanilang relasyon (We saw what the visit of Ms. Kris Aquino and her children suggests. It indicates that they have a good relationship),” Castro said during a Palace briefing.
Araneta-Marcos shared a photo of herself with Aquino and her sons on Sunday, thanking them for what she described as a thoughtful surprise.
She said the visit “truly warmed [my] heart” and made her feel “very blessed.”
Castro said the First Lady appeared to have enjoyed the meeting, although she did not provide details about what the two discussed.
“Kung ano ‘yung kanilang pag-usapan, wala pong naibibigay sa akin at kung mayroon man ay baka hindi pa ako allowed sabihin ito. But definitely masaya naman sila (I have not been given any information about what they discussed, and if there was any, perhaps I am not yet allowed to disclose it. But definitely, they were happy),” Castro said.
Araneta-Marcos is related by marriage to Aquino’s sons. Her maternal aunt, Rosario Cacho, was married to Pedro Cojuangco, the eldest brother of Aquino’s mother, the late former President Corazon Aquino.
The family connection has maintained ties between the Marcoses and Aquinos despite the political differences historically associated with the two families.
