Hundreds of residents in northern Cebu received free medical, dental and diagnostic services as the Cebu Provincial Government brought its healthcare outreach program to Bogo City.
Held at the Bogo Sports Complex, the medical mission was part of the province’s 457th Founding Anniversary activities and provided residents with services that could otherwise require additional time and expenses.
Capitol Public Health Consultant Dr. Nikki Catalan said the one-day activity offered medical consultations, laboratory tests, dental services, medicines, reading glasses and nutrition counseling.
A total of 284 residents received medical consultations, while 414 obtained medicines through the mission’s pharmacy services.
Dental services reached 222 beneficiaries. Of these, 35 were served through the Philippine Health Office-Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, while 187 received services at the Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Cebu Province Chapter complex.
The medical mission also provided diagnostic services, allowing residents to undergo basic health screening without paying the usual costs.
Health workers conducted 59 electrocardiogram tests and 69 chest X-rays. The laboratory services included tests for blood sugar, uric acid and cholesterol.
Records showed that 89 people underwent random blood sugar testing, 45 had their uric acid levels checked and 20 underwent cholesterol testing.
The provincial government also distributed 162 pairs of reading glasses and provided nutrition counseling to 51 individuals.
Catalan said the activity was made possible through the support of medical institutions, professional organizations, civic groups and local government partners.
Among the participating groups were the All-Terrain Medical Relief Organization, Perpetual Succor Hospital, Allied Care Experts Medical Center-Cebu, VisayasMed Hospital, Cebu Medical Society, JCI Zugbuana, IBP-Cebu Province Chapter, Cebu Provincial Hospital-Bogo City and the City of Bogo.
Several participating organizations have also supported the province’s medical and surgical missions for a second consecutive year, helping expand the reach of free healthcare services to communities across Cebu.
