Daniel “The Beast” Boiwo and Teresiah Kabui topped the men’s and women’s 21K races as more than 1,800 runners took part in the opening leg of the PalawanPay Trilogy Marathon 2026 in Mandaue City on Sept. 27.
Boiwo claimed the men’s 21K title, followed by Arvengie Encinada and Glady Kipto, while Kabui led the women’s field, with Michelle Raniola finishing second and Cristine Ann Sardoncillo placing third.
The Cebu leg featured 5K, 10K, 16K and 21K categories, drawing seasoned runners, casual participants, families, friends, employees, partners and community members.
Organized by PalawanPay in partnership with RunRio and the UP Office of Athletics and Sports Development, the event marked the start of a three-leg running series that will proceed to Palawan on Oct. 18 and conclude in Manila on Nov. 28.
The event also carries a fundraising component, with proceeds intended to help purchase fully equipped emergency ambulances for underserved communities in Aklan and South Cotabato.
Other category winners included Mark Mahinay and Michellle Zamora in the men’s and women’s 16K races, respectively.
Anthony Orellano topped the men’s 10K, while Lijeaven Noay won the women’s category.
Zeus Lecera and Jane Pangalao emerged as the men’s and women’s 5K winners.
For Palawan Group of Companies, Cebu served as the starting point of the Trilogy partly because of its existing presence in the province.
The company has 295 Palawan branches and more than 1,500 Cebuano partners and associates in Cebu.
“Cebu has been an important part of Palawan’s growth,” said Lisa Castro-Sabado, chief business development officer of Palawan Group of Companies.
She said the event provided another avenue for the company to engage with the Cebuano community while promoting health, wellness and time spent together.
The event also brought together Palawan employees and their families, customers, partners and other members of the community under the company’s “Sama-Sama Together” culture.
Korina Castro-Fernando, chief human resources officer of Palawan Group of Companies, said the shared experience was part of the event’s purpose, centered on staying active and supporting communities with limited access to emergency healthcare.
The Trilogy also builds on Palawan’s involvement in grassroots sports, including tennis, basketball and running programs.
Following the Cebu leg, the series will continue in Palawan on Oct. 18 before its final leg in Manila on Nov. 28.
