A century-old brass bell dating back to 1914 has been recovered after it was reported stolen from Saint Peter Parish Church in Poblacion, Ondol, Loboc, Bohol, police said.
Church personnel discovered the bell missing at around 7:50 a.m. on October 5 and reported the incident to the Loboc Municipal Police Station shortly after.
Police launched a follow-up investigation and reviewed CCTV footage, which showed two individuals taking the brass bell before leaving aboard a tricycle.
The footage helped investigators trace the suspects and coordinate with the Sagbayan Municipal Police Station. At around 1:50 a.m. on October 6, police arrested a 25-year-old male, identified as a scrap metal buyer and resident of Purok 6, Santa Cruz, Sagbayan, Bohol.
A succeeding follow-up operation led authorities to Purok 2, Libertad, Tubigon, Bohol, where the missing brass bell was recovered.
Police also identified a female resident of Purok 6, Santa Cruz, Sagbayan, as another person allegedly involved in the incident. She remains at large as of the latest report.
The recovered bell is considered part of the parish’s historical heritage.
The operation was conducted by personnel of the Loboc and Sagbayan Municipal Police Stations under the supervision of PCPT Bill Rico D. Dupagan, chief of police of Loboc.
The tricycle allegedly used in the incident was placed under the temporary custody of the Sagbayan Municipal Police Station for proper disposition.
The arrested suspect was brought to the Loboc Municipal Police Station for documentation, proper disposition, and the filing of appropriate charges.
Police said follow-up efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining suspect.
