Go seeks TESDA night classes in computer skills, English for Cebu City

Cebu City residents who cannot attend daytime training may get more flexible opportunities to learn computer operations and improve their English communication skills under two proposed resolutions by Councilor Harold Kendrick Go.

Go is asking the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to consider offering evening classes in Basic Computer Operations and English speaking and writing to accommodate working adults, job seekers, out-of-school youth, parents and other residents with daytime commitments.

The first proposed resolution urges TESDA-Cebu Province to offer night classes in Basic Computer Operations, citing the importance of computer literacy in employment, education, livelihood activities and access to government services.

The second proposal seeks evening classes in English speaking and writing to help residents strengthen their communication skills and improve their employment prospects.

Both measures aim to expand access to skills development for residents whose work schedules and other responsibilities prevent them from attending regular daytime classes.

The proposed English classes are intended to help learners develop communication skills that could support their job applications and career opportunities across various industries.

The resolutions emphasize the need for accessible education and training programs that respond to workforce requirements and labor market demands.

The English literacy proposal also cites Republic Act No. 7796, which established TESDA and mandated the agency to provide technical education and skills development programs responsive to workforce and labor market needs.

Under the proposed measures, copies of the resolutions would be furnished to TESDA-Cebu Province and the agency’s regional office for their information, appropriate action and consideration.

The proposals do not specify a training schedule, enrollment process or implementation date. TESDA must first consider the requests before it can offer the suggested classes.

The measures remain proposals seeking to make practical skills training more accessible to Cebu City residents who need learning opportunities beyond regular daytime hours.
