More than 20,000 households in Lapu-Lapu City received 10 kilograms of rice each under the national government’s Bawat Bayan Makikinabang Program on Oct. 29 and 30.
The two-day distribution benefited a total of 20,930 families, with 13,939 receiving assistance on the first day at the Hoops Dome grounds.
Another 6,991 families from eight barangays received their rice allocation on Oct. 30. These were Bankal, Punta Engaño, Gun-ob, Mactan, Calawisan, Subabasbas, Pusok and Agus.
Funded through the Local Government Support Fund, the program aims to ease household expenses amid the energy crisis, which has affected the prices of transportation, food and other basic necessities.
The City Social Welfare and Development Office facilitated the distribution in coordination with barangay officials and the Urban Poor Affairs Office.
The city government is also bringing back its P20-per-kilo rice program in Olango Island to extend subsidized rice assistance to more communities.
The distribution is scheduled to run from Oct. 30 to Nov. 12 across several barangays.
The schedule covers Baring and Tungasan on Oct. 30; Caw-oy on Nov. 5; Santa Rosa on Nov. 6; Sabang on Nov. 7; San Vicente on Nov. 9; Tungasan and Pangan-an on Nov. 10; Caohagan on Nov. 11; and Caubian on Nov. 12.
Senior citizens, persons with disabilities, members of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, solo parents and indigent residents will receive priority.
Residents who wish to avail themselves of the subsidized rice are advised to bring valid identification cards and coordinate with their respective barangays.
