Cebu Normal University (CNU) is a place of learning and light. But like any institution with history, it holds shadows in its corners. Among students, one story is whispered with a particular urban legend: the horrifying possession inside a campus CR.
The details are always the same, though the year and the specific student change with each telling. The most common version describes a female student who stayed late to study. She went to the restroom, everything seeming normal. As she washed her hands and looked up into the large mirror, she froze. Reflected behind her was not an empty room but the figure of a woman. Her features were a distorted, indescribable blur, wearing a smirk that was pure malice.
The story goes that the student spun around to find nothing there. But the encounter had already left its mark. She was found by classmates moments later, acting hysterical and then falling into a catatonic state, her eyes blank, fixed on the ceiling. Whispers say she only snapped back to reality when she was near a religious symbol.
The rumor that gives the story its lasting power is what happened next. It’s said that the university administration, after the incident and a subsequent exorcism, investigated the room. When they removed the mirror, they found the source of the haunting: scrawled on the wall behind it were strange, unsettling writings and symbols. The mirror was believed to be a conduit. It was immediately blessed, shattered and replaced.
The restroom was cleansed. But students still say that if you’re alone in that certain CR and you look into the new mirror for a little too long, you might just feel an unnatural chill. Some claim to feel an unseen presence watching them. And the paranoid thought creeps in. Are you truly alone in your reflection?
Some say the old mirror’s curse was broken. Others believe some doors, once opened, can never be fully closed.
