Amid the devastating floods caused by Typhoon Tino, the courage of a 15-year-old boy from Fatima, Jubay, Liloan, Cebu, has captured national attention. Jayboy Magdadaro risked his life to save more than 50 residents of Villa Lara, Jubay, who were trapped by the rapidly rising waters.
Initially evacuating to Sitio San Roque, anticipating that his hometown would bear the brunt of the flooding, Jayboy soon realized that Villa Lara was facing the most severe impact. Without hesitation, he sprang into action. From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., armed only with a lifebuoy and a small boat, he navigated treacherous floodwaters to rescue stranded individuals, including children, pregnant women, and the elderly. In the process, he encountered lifeless bodies, a grim reminder of the storm’s severity.
Despite offers of financial reward from grateful survivors, Jayboy declined, emphasizing that his actions were driven solely by compassion and a sense of duty.
Jayboy’s bravery and selflessness at such a young age exemplify true heroism. Courage without hesitation, kindness without expectation, and service without reward. His actions have inspired not only the people of Jubay but the entire nation.
