A wing van crew who helped rescue six individuals from being swept away by floodwaters in Cotcot Liloan during Typhoon Tino on November 4 were reportedly laid off by their employer for using the vehicle during the operation.
Video from the Liloan Municipal Police Station shows the crew strategically using their wing van to slow the powerful water current, creating a safer path for struggling residents near a creek. Their quick thinking was credited with preventing a tragedy.
Despite their heroic actions, the workers lost their jobs. The Police Regional Office in Central Visayas has since recognized their bravery and is now coordinating to provide support and assist them in finding new employment.
