The Philippines will continue to be affected by a low pressure area (LPA), formerly Tropical Depression Wilma, along with four other weather systems, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Monday.
In its 4 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA reported that as of 3 a.m., the LPA was located over the coastal waters of Culasi, Antique. While the system is showing signs of weakening, PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said there remains a “medium chance” that it could redevelop into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 to 48 hours.
Residents in affected areas are advised to stay updated on developments, as the LPA continues to influence rainfall patterns and wind conditions across the country.
The LPA is expected to bring scattered rains and thunderstorms over Mimaropa, which includes the provinces of Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan.
Western Visayas will also see similar weather conditions, with localized heavy rainfall possible in some areas.
In northern and central Luzon, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Aurora, and Quezon will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms due to the shear line.
Badrina warned that heavy rainfall may occur particularly in Cagayan Valley, especially in Isabela, as well as in Apayao, Kalinga, Quirino, Aurora, and Quezon.
These areas face the risk of localized flooding and potential landslides, especially in hilly and low-lying zones.
The northeast monsoon, locally known as amihan, will bring cloudy skies with intermittent rain showers over Metro Manila, the rest of Cagayan Valley, the remaining parts of Central Luzon, and the rest of Calabarzon, which includes Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon.
The Ilocos Region will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with isolated light rain also brought by amihan winds. Residents in these areas should expect cooler temperatures but remain alert for sudden downpours.
In the Bicol Region, easterly winds will lead to cloudy skies with scattered rain and isolated thunderstorms.
For Visayas and Mindanao, weather conditions will generally be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by localized disturbances.
Although rainfall may be light in some areas, residents should remain cautious, particularly in flood-prone zones.
Maritime conditions will also be affected by these weather systems.
The eastern section of Luzon will experience strong to gale northeast winds, creating rough to very rough coastal waters that may pose risks to small boats and fishermen.
The rest of Luzon will have moderate to strong northeast winds, resulting in moderate to rough seas, while Visayas and Mindanao will see light to moderate east to northeast winds and slight to moderate coastal waters.
Residents in high-risk areas, especially those prone to flooding and landslides, are urged to take necessary precautions and stay alert for warnings from local authorities. (with reports from PNA)
