The humble makahiya (Mimosa pudica), known for its “touch-me-not” leaves, may be more than just a childhood curiosity. Recent studies reveal that compounds in this unassuming plant strongly inhibit PDE5, an enzyme crucial for blood flow, even outperforming Viagra.
Licensed forester and UP assistant professor Jonathan “Ethan” Hernandez shared that a simple tea from the leaves and roots can act as a natural aphrodisiac, improving stamina and sexual function. “Di na kailangang bumili ng Robust!” he says.
Science also backs it up: male rats treated with makahiya extract showed healthier reproductive organs, better sperm quality, improved hormone levels, and recovery from diabetes-related sexual dysfunction.
From childhood wonder to adult wellness secret, makahiya proves that sometimes the smallest things pack the biggest punch.
