Mandaue City Mayor Thadeo Jovito “Jonkie” Ouano reported that several Gugma sa Pasko food packs remain unclaimed as the city government wraps up its Christmas distribution program.

December 19 marks the last day of distribution for at least 86,000 residents listed under the Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS).

However, Ouano noted that some food packs were left unclaimed because several beneficiaries no longer reside in the city.

The city purchased a total of 100,000 food packs, each containing 10 items for Noche Buena celebrations, including ingredients for spaghetti and fruit salad.

Of these, 14,000 packs were reserved as buffer stock.

Ouano directed barangay and city personnel to verify households that did not receive any food pack.

Verified households, regardless of the number of families living in one home, will each be given one pack using the buffer and unclaimed supplies.

“Taga-house na ang atong mahatagan human aning CBMS nga list,” Ouano said.

He acknowledged that redistribution may extend slightly beyond Christmas but assured residents that it will be completed before the New Year.

“Dili lang gyud molapas og Bag-ong Tuig. Mao na atong tumong,” Ouano said, noting the goal is to finish before media noche on December 31.

The mayor emphasized that these adjustments are part of fine-tuning the program, noting that this is the first time in Mandaue City’s history that all residents are being provided with Christmas food packs.

To improve accuracy in future distributions, Ouano said an identification system will be implemented next year.

As of the last day of distribution, the city government had already completed about 90 percent of the program.

Ouano also plans to endorse an ordinance to the City Council to institutionalize the Gugma sa Pasko program.

Each P600 Noche Buena pack contains Chinese luncheon meat, fruit cocktail, cream, spaghetti noodles and sauce, carne norte, sausage, beef loaf, pork and beans, and cheese.

A total of P60 million from the city’s General Fund was allocated for the purchase of the 100,000 food packs. (VCL)
