Cebu City has imposed stricter rules for Sinulog 2026 to ensure a safer, more organized, and faith-centered celebration.

The Cebu City Government, in coordination with the Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI), announced new measures during a meeting led by SFI Executive Director Jojo Labella and key festival partners.

Under the updated guidelines, contingents arriving at their designated pre-positioning areas along the parade route at or after 7 a.m. will not be allowed to join the procession.

Performers are also prohibited from using lights or bright illuminated props during their routines.

“Strict adherence to schedules and competition rules is necessary to maintain the festival’s integrity and safety,” Labella said.

Pre-judging of floats will also be conducted to ensure compliance with competition standards.

Communication during the festival will remain uninterrupted, with no signal shutdowns planned for participants, media, and the public.

Media members are encouraged to cover all Sinulog events and share updates on social media to increase public reach.

Preparations for Sinulog 2026 are reportedly 60 percent complete, according to Councilor Dave Tumulak of the SFI executive committee.

The grand stage at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) is already in place, while marketing and additional funding remain key tasks.

Private sector contributions have supplemented festival funding after the Cebu City Government reduced SFI’s allocation from P90 million to P78 million, redirecting resources to support recent calamity victims.

For crowd safety, mobile bleachers will be deployed along the parade route, and stricter crowd control measures will be enforced.

Mayor Nestor Archival directed organizers to streamline the parade and conclude festivities by 7 p.m. to avoid operational delays seen in past celebrations.

Sinulog 2026 will maintain a strong religious focus, requiring floats to reflect at least 70 percent devotion to the Sto. Niño, with brand visibility capped at 30 percent.

Several local government units, including Talisay, have opted out of participation due to ongoing calamity response efforts.

Peace and order, traffic management, and mobility remain top priorities.

Shuttle services, restricted liquor rules, and limited concerts outside the main parade route are planned to ensure a smooth and meaningful festival experience. (LLP)
