Governor Pamela Baricuatro kicked off the provincial government’s 2026 work calendar with a call for discipline, professionalism, and unity among Capitol officials and employees, stressing that public service must always be grounded in “service, teamwork, and protection.”

During the first flag-raising ceremony of the year on January 5 at the Capitol Social Hall, Baricuatro reminded government workers to remain mindful of their actions, warning that even minor lapses could be magnified and used against the administration.

“We need to be very careful in everything we do here in the Capitol kay naay nag-atang nato, naay nag-atang nako nga masipyat la’g gamay,” she said.

Baricuatro emphasized that service to the people of Cebu must come first, urging employees to treat constituents, many of whom travel long distances to the Capitol, with compassion and care.

“That’s what we are here for: to serve sa mga tawo sa Probinsya sa Sugbo. So let us serve them with a smile,” she said.

Small gestures, such as greeting visitors warmly or offering water, reflect the true spirit of public service, she noted.

The governor also highlighted teamwork as essential to progress.

“The meaning of TEAM is ‘Together Everyone Achieves More,’” she said, calling for cooperation across offices and between the executive and legislative branches to ensure smooth governance and effective service delivery.

Baricuatro further appealed for internal support amid political challenges, acknowledging groups intent on undermining her leadership.

“Protection—nanginahanglan ko sa inyong proteksyon kay naay mga entity karon nga gusto nga ma suspenso, ma dismissed ko, ma wala ko sa serbisyo,” she said.

Despite these challenges, she reiterated her commitment to calm and principled leadership.

“But on my part, I choose to have PEACE: pursue excellence and cherish everyone,” she said.

The ceremony marked the official return to work of Capitol employees following the Christmas and New Year break and was attended by Vice Governor Glenn Soco and members of the Provincial Board. (SBA)
