DOH 7 URGES SAFE, HEALTHY SINULOG CELEBRATION

As Cebu gears up for Sinulog 2026, the Department of Health Central Visayas (DOH 7) has released a set of health advisories to ensure that the annual festivities are enjoyed safely and responsibly.

In a public advisory, DOH 7 emphasized the importance of preparing for both heat and rain during the festival.

Revelers were advised to bring protective items such as umbrellas, hats, hand fans, raincoats, or other gear to shield themselves from the elements.

These simple measures are designed to prevent heat-related illnesses, sunburn, and discomfort from sudden downpours that are common in January.

Food safety is another key concern during large gatherings, the DOH noted. Festival-goers were encouraged to bring food that is less likely to spoil quickly, reducing the risk of foodborne illnesses.

In addition, carrying sufficient drinking water was recommended to maintain proper hydration amid the crowds and under the hot sun.

DOH 7 also advised that certain groups—children, senior citizens, pregnant individuals, and people with existing health conditions—consider staying home if possible.

The department stressed that avoiding crowded areas can help protect vulnerable populations from potential health risks during the festival.

Proper hand hygiene was highlighted as a critical precaution. Festival attendees were reminded to regularly sanitize their hands using alcohol-based sanitizers or to wash them with soap and water.

This simple practice can help limit the spread of germs, particularly in densely packed areas where close contact with others is inevitable.

For emergencies or further health guidance, DOH 7 made available its 24/7 Regional Patient Navigation and Referral Unit. Globe and TM subscribers can dial #0711, while alternative contact numbers include 0967-221-9120, 0923-196-8249, and the landline (032) 411-6900.

These lines are intended to provide immediate assistance and reliable health information throughout the festival period.

Through these advisories, DOH 7 reiterated its call to celebrate responsibly and safely, echoing its official campaign slogan: “Atong isaulog ang Sinulog nga Luwas ug Hapsay!”

The department’s guidance aims to balance the joy and cultural significance of the Sinulog festival with practical measures to protect the health and well-being of everyone involved.
