Thirty-two trainees under Batch Falcon have completed a two-month intensive program and will join the disaster response pool of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in Mandaue City, boosting the city’s emergency readiness.

They were formally recognized on Friday, February 13, 2026, after finishing courses that prepared them for a wide range of emergencies, including medical response, fire suppression, vehicle extrication, tree cutting, and water search and rescue operations.

CDRRMO head Buddy Ybañez said the trainees underwent rigorous physical and skills training that required long periods away from their families to meet operational standards.

Mayor Thadeo Jovito “Jonkie” Ouano said the addition of new responders comes at a crucial time as the city continues to face risks from fires, flooding, road accidents, and other emergencies.

He emphasized that disaster response demands discipline and a commitment to put public safety first.

“Not everyone is willing to move toward danger. These responders chose to do so in order to save lives,” Ouano said, adding that personnel are expected to undergo continuous training to maintain readiness.

City Administrator Atty. Sally Malig-on Jr., CDRRMO operations head Erwin Alivio, and training facilitator Mario Perez attended the recognition rites along with other CDRRMO personnel.

The city government said the newly trained responders will be integrated into ongoing operations and future deployments as part of efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness and response. (VCL)
