The Cambogaong Bridge in Barangay Paknaan reopens Friday, February 22, following the completion of its rehabilitation, promising smoother travel for motorists across northern Cebu.

Mandaue City Mayor Thadeo Jovito “Jonkie” Ouano said the contractor and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) have confirmed that the bridge is now ready for public use.

“Since the rehabilitation began last year, I have heard from our constituents, especially those traveling from Consolacion to Daanbantayan, who experienced heavier traffic due to the bridge closure,” Ouano said.

He added that reopening the bridge will significantly ease congestion along the main thoroughfare.

“At least makaluag-luag na sa main thoroughfare nato. Diha na makaagi na pagbalik sa Cambogaong Bridge, mag-normalize na ta,” Ouano said.

The mayor noted that feedback has come from both Mandaue residents and motorists who regularly use the northern Cebu route.

He emphasized that the city did not pressure the contractor to rush the project, as ensuring the bridge’s structural integrity and safety was the top priority.

“Ganahan ta makasiguro sa safety sa mga muagi dinha. Kung premature pa, simbako lang naay mahitabo dinha, mao na ang atong gilikayan,” he added.

The Cambogaong Bridge, which was closed in August 2025, underwent major rehabilitation to strengthen the structure and connect it to the existing road network.

The project was part of a national government infrastructure initiative and was designed to accommodate all types of vehicles, including large trucks and buses.

City officials said the reopening will be particularly beneficial for motorists traveling to and from northern Cebu, as it provides an alternative route that bypasses severe congestion near the Cansaga Bridge in Consolacion.

Ouano expressed hope that the bridge reopening would immediately improve traffic flow in the Paknaan area and surrounding towns, providing relief to commuters and transport operators alike. (VCL)
