President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Thursday inaugurated the Pag-Abot Processing Center in Liloan, Cebu, a facility designed to assist people living on the streets through health services, temporary shelter, and social support programs.
The center forms part of the Pag-Abot Program, launched in 2023 and institutionalized in 2024, which aims to help families and individuals in street situations transition toward stable and dignified lives.
Under the program, beneficiaries receive health services, food, clothing, psychosocial support, livelihood assistance, temporary housing, and family reintegration.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), in coordination with the Department of the Interior and Local Government and local government units, also works to ensure their inclusion in the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program and other social protection initiatives.
DSWD records show that more than 600 homeless individuals in Cebu have been identified and are being assisted under the Pag-Abot Program.
During his visit, Marcos toured the processing center and inspected the clinic, beneficiary assessment and profiling areas, biometrics section, clothing distribution area, storage and laundry facilities, kitchen and dining hall, administrative office, senior citizens’ room, isolation room, and prayer and activity areas.
He also visited the second-floor facilities, including the child-minding and multipurpose areas, lactation room, house parents’ room, male, female and family sleeping quarters, and communal bathrooms.
DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian accompanied the President during the visit.
Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco, Rep. Vincent Franco Frasco of Cebu’s 5th District, Liloan Mayor Aljew Fernando Frasco and Liloan Vice Mayor Margarita Frasco were also present.
Officials said the processing center aims to provide coordinated services for individuals and families living on the streets and to connect them with long-term government assistance programs.
