Warm and humid weather will continue to dominate conditions across the country as the easterlies blow, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported Friday.

Weather specialist Leanne Loreto of PAGASA explained that the easterlies — winds blowing from the east — are responsible for transporting moist air from the Pacific, which can increase humidity levels in many regions. She said this weather pattern could also trigger thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon and evening hours when surface heating is at its peak.

PAGASA cautioned that some of these thunderstorms may become severe, with heavy rainfall that can potentially cause flash floods or landslides in vulnerable areas.

Residents living near riverbanks, steep slopes, and low-lying communities are advised to monitor local weather updates and take precautions against sudden flooding or soil movement.

Despite the possibility of thunderstorms, Loreto said the country is not expected to experience any major weather disturbances in the next four to five days.

This means that no typhoons or low-pressure systems are forecast to enter or develop over Philippine waters during this period, providing relatively stable conditions aside from localized rain showers.

Moderate winds and moderate coastal waters are expected over the eastern sections of the Visayas and Mindanao, while other parts of the country will experience light to moderate winds accompanied by slight to moderate seas.

These conditions are typical during the easterlies season, particularly affecting eastern coastal communities.

Temperature forecasts indicate warm conditions across major cities and provinces. Tuguegarao is expected to reach 33°C, while Zamboanga and Davao may experience highs of 32°C. Metro Manila, Legazpi, Kalayaan Islands, Cebu, Tacloban, Iloilo, and Cagayan de Oro are forecast to reach around 31°C

Residents are advised to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions against heat exposure, especially during midday hours.

PAGASA continues to remind the public to remain vigilant despite the generally calm weather forecast in the coming days. Thunderstorms, although localized, may still develop suddenly and bring strong rains and gusty winds in affected areas.

Coastal communities and those in flood-prone zones are encouraged to follow updates from local disaster management offices and maintain readiness for possible advisories or warnings. (with reports from PNA)
