Performers from Lapu-Lapu City brought Filipino culture to the international stage after participating in the Chingay Parade 2026 in Singapore, one of Asia’s largest and most vibrant Chinese New Year celebrations.

Delegates from the Lapu-Lapu City Performing Arts and Lapu-Lapu Arnis de Abanico captivated the global audience with performances inspired by the Pasigarbo sa Lapu-Lapu Festival, showcasing the city’s rich traditions and artistic expression on February 27.

According to city officials, Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong personally met the performers and thanked them for representing Lapu-Lapu City at the parade.

The delegation was also welcomed by Medardo Macaraig, Philippine ambassador to Singapore, who expressed support for the group as it represented the country on the international stage.

A total of 44 delegates composed the Philippine contingent from Lapu-Lapu City. They were formally sent off during a ceremony at the Mayor’s Office on February 25, led by Mayor Cindi King-Chan.

Mayor King-Chan said the city was honored to be invited to represent the Philippines in the prestigious parade.

“Dako kaayo kini nga dungog para sa atong syudad nga ang atong Garbo sa Lapu-Lapu Festival maoy mopresentar sa Pilipinas sa maong parada. Ipasigarbo nato sa kalibutan ang katahum sa atong kultura ug ang espiritu sa mga Oponganon,” she said.

The performers staged their presentation at the F1 Pit Building, one of the main venues of the Chingay Parade.

City Tourism Officer Garry Lao said the invitation reflects the growing international recognition of Lapu-Lapu City’s cultural festivals, which draw inspiration from the traditions and stories of the city’s 30 barangays. (VCL)
