The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) has identified several social media influencers allegedly promoting illegal online gambling, authorities said on March 4.
Among those named were Girl Tapang Vlogs, Al Moralde, Bemaks TV Fam, Jam Magno, Vic Desucatan, Normie Garcia, and Cherry White.
The content creators reportedly have millions of followers on Facebook and endorsed online platforms that are either unregistered or falsely claiming accreditation from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).
The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) said it is coordinating with Meta Platforms to remove related pages and continues to gather evidence for possible criminal charges.
Authorities warned that anyone found promoting illegal online gambling could face violations of the Cybercrime Prevention Act and gambling laws.
Operations against illegal online gambling remain ongoing, with law enforcement monitoring suspected promoters closely.
Describing it as evil, Cebu Archbishop Alberto Uy has called for a total ban on online gambling.
In a statement released on July 25, Uy urged President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and lawmakers to permanently ban online gambling in the country, saying, “it robs people of time, dignity, and peace.”
“Let me speak plainly: Online gambling is evil. It feeds on the vulnerable,” the 58-year-old prelate said. Allowing the operation of online gambling will destroy lives, break families, and prey on the poor, he added.
Uy pointed out that online gambling is not just a legal or financial issue but also a moral and spiritual crisis that cannot be fixed by just regulating it.
Uy added that online gambling is often disguised as entertainment but can actually lead to addiction, debt, despair, and even suicide.
He opposed suggestions that regulation instead of a total ban could benefit the country because of the revenues it brings in.
