Pagasa Warns of Isolated Showers, Thunderstorms Nationwide

Two weather systems will continue to bring rains over parts of the country in the coming days, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported Thursday.

In its 4 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the prevailing easterlies are expected to cause scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in parts of Mindanao, particularly Surigao del Sur, Davao de Oro, and Davao Oriental.

The agency warned that moderate to heavy rainfall in these areas could trigger flash floods and landslides, posing potential hazards to residents and communities in low-lying and upland areas.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan,” will continue to affect extreme northern Luzon.

Light rains are forecast for Batanes, Cagayan, and Apayao, while isolated light showers may occur in Ilocos Norte.

PAGASA noted that these rains are generally light, but residents in mountainous or flood-prone areas are advised to remain cautious.

Metro Manila and other parts of the country are expected to experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, also influenced by the easterlies.

PAGASA highlighted that even scattered thunderstorms have the potential to produce localized flash floods or landslides, especially in areas with steep terrain or poor drainage.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas are forecast for northern Luzon, affecting coastal and maritime activities.

In other parts of the country, winds are expected to be light to moderate, with slight to moderate seas along coastal waters, making fishing and small-scale maritime operations generally safe but requiring attention to changing conditions.

PAGASA also confirmed that no low pressure area is currently being monitored for possible tropical cyclone development, indicating that residents need not anticipate a new storm in the immediate future.

The agency advised the public to stay updated with official weather bulletins and to take necessary precautions, particularly in areas prone to flooding, landslides, and adverse weather-related incidents.
