Motorists may soon face one of the largest fuel price increases in recent years, as oil companies are expected to raise pump prices by ₱17 to ₱24 per liter within the week.

According to the Department of Energy, the projected increase was discussed during a House committee hearing on Monday, March 9, where officials warned lawmakers about a significant spike in global oil prices.

The agency said the looming adjustment could affect gasoline, diesel, and kerosene prices nationwide, placing additional pressure on motorists and transport operators already dealing with rising costs.

Energy officials explained that the anticipated price surge is largely driven by developments in the global oil market, including geopolitical tensions in the Middle East that have disrupted supply and pushed fuel prices upward.

Motorists in various parts of the country have started bracing for the possible increase, with some already topping up their tanks ahead of the expected adjustment.

Fuel price changes in the Philippines are typically implemented every Tuesday, based on movements in the international oil market.

Authorities advised the public to monitor official announcements from oil companies and the Department of Energy for the final price adjustments.
