The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), under the supervision of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Giovanni “Banoy” Z. Lopez, has issued a show cause order (SCO) against a public utility vehicle operator involved in a road crash in Cebu.
LTFRB Chairperson Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said the SCO aims to clarify the circumstances of the incident and determine whether the passenger jeepney was at fault.
At least 15 people were injured when a sedan collided with the jeepney while it was unloading passengers.
Five of the injured were pedestrians passing by the area at the time of the crash.
“We want to know every detail of the incident, not only to determine accountability but also to inform road safety policies,” Mendoza said.
The LTFRB directed both the driver and the operator to provide written explanations on why they should not be held liable.
They are also required to appear in a hearing.
Meanwhile, Mendoza ordered LTFRB Region 7 to assist victims in claiming insurance benefits to cover medical expenses resulting from the accident.
“This is an immediate form of support, especially for those whose injuries need urgent medical attention,” he said.
