Malacañang on Tuesday denied claims that the government has eased up on its investigation into alleged anomalies in flood control projects, stressing that accountability efforts remain ongoing.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the Marcos administration continues to prioritize its anti-corruption drive, which she noted contributes to public trust in the President.

“Iyan naman po talaga ang nais ng Pangulo. Ang administrasyon ngayon ay lumalaban sa korapsyon,” Castro said during a Palace briefing.

She also dismissed assertions that the issue is being neglected, saying no one is “sleeping” on the investigation and that efforts are continuing.

Castro said the Independent Commission for Infrastructure, created in September last year, has already submitted its findings to the Office of the Ombudsman and the Department of Justice, which are continuing the investigations.

She added that the commission has effectively completed its mandate after submitting its report, citing the sunset clause or functus officio provision under Executive Order No. 94.

She explained that the President relied on the commission’s assessment that it had fulfilled its mandate, noting that the body served as a fact-finding commission whose recommendations are now under evaluation for possible case buildup and prosecution.

Castro said the recommendations have already been turned over to the Department of Justice and the Ombudsman, which are now handling the cases.

She added that authorities are dealing with numerous complaints related to the issue, with both offices appearing overwhelmed by the volume of cases recommended for filing.

“Kahit sino pa iyan kung mayroong kinalaman, ebidensiya ang magiging basehan,” Castro said.

The Palace reiterated that investigations and prosecutions will proceed based on available evidence and that no one will be spared from accountability as long as there is sufficient proof. (with reports from PNA)
