Cebu City visitors entering the Provincial Capitol may find the Governor’s lobby temporarily off-limits as it undergoes a major facelift aimed at improving both security and visitor experience.
The restriction, effective immediately, limits access to individuals with confirmed appointments with Governor Pamela Baricuatro.
Employees and visitors are encouraged to use alternative routes inside the building.
Assistant Provincial Administrator Aldwin Empaces said the renovation addresses both long-standing space concerns and security needs.
The lobby will be transformed into a “Gallery of the People,” featuring curated images from the Governor’s public engagements and locally sourced materials, highlighting Cebuano culture and hospitality.
“Until mahuman ni,” Empaces said, noting that the measures are temporary and intended to enhance the space.
The initiative comes after a reported theft incident last month in which three cellphones were stolen from an office within the Capitol. While the suspect was apprehended, the items were never recovered.
The renovation includes additional security posts and improved visitor monitoring.
The internal memorandum outlining the restriction is directed at employees only and should not be interpreted as a general ban on public entry.
Empaces reassured the public that the Capitol remains accessible through other doors and access points.
Baricuatro said the project also aims to create an Instagram-worthy area for visitors.
The lobby renovation is approved by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, with a targeted completion date of April 10, shortly after the Holy Week celebrations.
Empaces emphasized that such upgrades are standard for establishments handling public traffic, ensuring both the safety of personnel and the overall visitor experience. (SBA)
