5.1 Magnitude Earthquake Rattles Bogo City; Minor Injuries and Power Outages Reported

CEBU, PHILIPPINES — A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck the City of Bogo and surrounding areas on Monday afternoon, April 6, 2026, causing minor injuries, power interruptions, and further damage to structures already weakened by previous tremors.

Incident Overview

According to the Cebu Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), the tectonic quake occurred at 3:22 PM with a shallow depth of 11 kilometers. The epicenter was located approximately 12 kilometers southeast of Bogo City.

Recorded Intensities:

  • Intensity V (Strong): Bogo City and Medellin.
  • Intensity IV (Moderately Strong): Sogod and San Francisco, Cebu; Villaba and Hilongos, Leyte.
  • Intensity III (Weak): Cebu City, Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, Toledo, and parts of Leyte and Masbate.
  • Intensity II & I: Felt in southern Cebu, Biliran, and Masbate.

Impact and Casualties

The PDRRMO has confirmed the following updates from Local Government Units (LGUs):

  1. Bogo City: Injuries: Six (6) individuals sustained minor injuries due to shattered glass. Power outages were reported in Barangay Cogon and Barangay Banban. Water supply and transportation remain operational.
  2. San Remigio: The San Remigio Parish building and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) building—both previously compromised during the M6.9 earthquake in September 2025—sustained further structural damage.
  3. Northern Cebu: General reports of shattered window panes and fallen ceilings in various infrastructures.

Safety Reminder: Residents are advised to stay vigilant, inspect their homes for cracks, and follow the “Duck, Cover, and Hold” protocol during aftershocks.
