Residents in upland areas are set to gain easier access to affordable basic goods as the Cebu City Government rolls out its Grocery Caravan in Barangay Babag on April 12.

The caravan will start at 7:30 a.m. and will be set up in front of Cebu Technological University in Barangay Babag, a location identified as accessible to nearby mountain barangays.

Mayor Nestor Archival said the activity follows the initial rollout of the program in March, with private retailer Metro Gaisano joining the effort to help supply reasonably priced commodities.

The Grocery Caravan will offer essential items such as rice, canned goods, and other household necessities at prices comparable to major supermarkets, allowing residents to avoid transportation costs when traveling to the city proper.

Archival said the initiative aims to cushion the impact of rising fuel prices and increasing costs of basic goods, particularly for communities in geographically elevated and less accessible areas.

The mayor added that partnerships with the private sector are key to sustaining the program and ensuring a steady supply of goods.

Barangay officials were urged to disseminate information on the schedule and venue to maximize participation and ensure more residents benefit from the caravan. (LLP)
