Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Ma. Cynthia “Cindi” King-Chan has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Lucille Jean Olasiman-Gershovich, a Filipina killed in a missile attack in Haifa, Israel on April 5.

In a statement, King-Chan extended condolences to the victim’s family and said the city government is coordinating with national agencies for assistance.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic news of the death of our fellow Oponganon, Ms. Lucille Jean Olasiman-Gershovich, who was killed in a missile attack in Haifa, Israel on April 5 amid the ongoing war in the Middle East,” the mayor said.

King-Chan urged the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv to provide immediate assistance to the bereaved family, including support for repatriation and other government aid.

She added that the Lapu-Lapu City Government is ready to coordinate with concerned agencies to ensure the family receives proper support during their time of mourning.

Based on information from relatives, Olasiman-Gershovich had lived in Lapu-Lapu City for more than 16 years and previously worked at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport.

She later met her Israeli husband, whom she married in 2024, and migrated to Israel about six months ago through a spousal visa.

Her family is appealing for the swift return of her remains to the Philippines for a proper burial.

King-Chan also extended prayers for the safety of overseas Filipino workers in areas affected by the ongoing conflict.
