City Hall in Mandaue has moved to formalize health advisories for residents as worsening air quality and rising temperatures prompt precautionary measures across the city.
The Mandaue City Council approved two draft resolutions urging the public to take preventive steps against environmental health risks linked to air pollution and extreme heat conditions.
Draft Resolution No. 400-2026 calls on residents, particularly children, senior citizens, pregnant women, and individuals with respiratory illnesses, to observe health precautions due to declining air quality levels.
The resolution cited monitoring data from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB), which recorded elevated PM2.5 levels in parts of Metro Cebu, including Mandaue City, classified as “unhealthy for sensitive groups.”
Mandaue City Councilor Jennifer S. del Mar said residents are being advised to take protective measures such as wearing face masks and limiting outdoor exposure.
“Sa atong air, nga gipagawas sa atong DENR-EMB nga dili gyud siya healthy atong air karon,” Del Mar said.
A separate measure, Draft Resolution No. 401-2026, urges residents to prepare for extreme heat conditions following forecasts from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
The resolution warned that high heat index levels may lead to heat-related illnesses such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke, particularly among vulnerable groups.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight, wear light clothing, and seek shaded or well-ventilated areas.
“Atong gipahimangnuan ang atong mga constituents to be extra careful kay naa na bayay gipagawas ang PAGASA regarding the heat index taas gyud kaayo siya,” Del Mar said.
She also emphasized the importance of public awareness and cooperation in reducing health risks.
“Mao na siya nga naghimo ta og resolution nga gi inform nato ang mga Mandauehanon nga mao ni ang current situation,” she added.
Despite ongoing Fiesta celebrations in the city, Del Mar said scheduled activities will continue but with added precautions, noting that many events are held in the evening, which may help reduce exposure to peak heat conditions. (VCL)
