Children were seen flying kites beneath the Cebu Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) on April 22, taking advantage of the strong open winds in the area.
While it may seem like harmless fun, authorities and motorists are raising concerns after two consecutive road incidents reportedly linked to kite strings.
In a recent incident, a 22-year-old motorcycle rider was injured after a kite string suddenly snagged his neck while passing along the expressway. The incident sparked online discussions and renewed calls for stricter safety awareness.
Reports also indicate another road accident allegedly caused by kite related obstruction, further alarming the public and road users.
Authorities have reminded parents and children to avoid flying kites near busy roads, highways, and bridges, as loose or sharp strings can become dangerous to motorists, especially motorcycle riders.
With school breaks and windy weather encouraging more outdoor play, the public is urged to prioritize safety and choose open spaces far from traffic areas.
