A Regional Trial Court in Mandaue City has ordered the arrest of Byron Garcia over a cyber libel case, with bail set at P48,000.
The Regional Trial Court Branch 83 issued the warrant after finding probable cause to proceed with the case, based on documents dated April 21, 2026.
The charge involves an alleged violation of Section 4(c)(4) of Republic Act 10175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, in relation to Article 355 of the Revised Penal Code.
In the order, the court directed authorities to take Garcia into custody and present him before the court.
“You are hereby COMMANDED to arrest BYRON FIEL GARCIA… and to bring forth before me to be dealt with according to law,” the warrant stated.
The court allowed Garcia to post bail of P48,000 for temporary release while proceedings are ongoing.
Presiding Judge Allan Francisco S. Garciano signed the warrant, which authorities assigned to the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 7 for implementation.
Law enforcers were instructed to serve the warrant and submit a return once it has been carried out or if efforts to locate the accused fail.
The case stemmed from a complaint filed in December 2025 by Janos Viscayno, who accused Garcia of making defamatory statements online.
Viscayno alleged that Garcia used digital platforms to spread accusations that were “malicious and damaging” to his reputation, including claims made in a vlog linking him to supposed irregularities in medical supply procurement and hospital-related activities.
The complaint comes amid ongoing tensions, as Garcia has publicly criticized the current provincial leadership and raised issues involving government projects and officials.
As of press time, Garcia has not issued a statement on the arrest order. (SBA)
