A robbery inside a passenger jeepney in Cebu City turned violent after a University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJR) student was stabbed in the hand for refusing to surrender her cellphone.

According to initial reports, the incident happened on April 25, 2026, along C. Padilla Street involving a 09F jeepney. The suspect allegedly boarded the vehicle and later demanded valuables from passengers.

When the female USJR student refused to give up her cellphone, she was stabbed in the hand. The suspect immediately fled the scene and was last seen escaping toward the Duljo area.

Amid these concerns, Cebu City is currently strengthening public safety measures through the implementation of the “Safer Cities Initiative,” aimed at improving law enforcement visibility, enhancing street patrols, and reducing crime incidents in urban and transport areas.

Authorities are currently conducting an investigation to identify and apprehend the suspect.

In a separate incident earlier in the week, a Grab delivery rider was also reportedly assaulted and robbed along Andres Abellana Street in Barangay Guadalupe on April 14, 2026. The early morning attack has further raised concerns about the safety of commuters and delivery riders in the city.

The series of incidents has sparked public concern online, with residents questioning safety in Cebu City and calling for stronger security measures in public transport and urban areas. Authorities are expected to intensify patrols as investigations continue.
