Communities in Camalig demonstrated strong bayanihan spirit as personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection and local residents worked side by side to clear ash-covered roads and wash down vehicles following heavy ashfall from Mayon Volcano.

On the evening of May 2, 2026, intensified volcanic activity triggered a lava dome collapse that generated pyroclastic density currents, spreading thick ash across several areas in Albay, including Guinobatan and Camalig. The ashfall reduced visibility, affected mobility, and posed health risks to residents, prompting immediate response from local authorities and emergency teams.

Despite the hazardous conditions, responders and civilians cooperated to mitigate the impact, clearing major roads and ensuring safer passage for motorists. Authorities continue to urge residents to remain vigilant, avoid high-risk zones, wear protective masks, and follow official safety advisories as volcanic activity persists.

The incident highlights both the ongoing risks posed by Mayon Volcano and the resilience of affected communities working together in times of crisis.
