Carbon Public Market is brimming with fresh green mangoes this peak summer season, with prices dropping as low as ₱5 each for smaller fruits, while larger, premium picks can reach up to ₱60. The months of April and May mark the height of mango harvest in the Philippines, resulting in abundant supply and some of the sweetest produce of the year.
Vendors across the market report increased demand from both locals and resellers, as mangoes remain a staple summer fruit—enjoyed fresh, paired with bagoong, or used in desserts, shakes, and other refreshments.
The Philippines is home to several mango varieties, with the most popular being the Carabao mango, widely regarded as one of the sweetest in the world. Other types include the Pico mango, known for its slightly tangy flavor, and the Katchamita mango, which is commonly eaten green and prized for its crisp texture and sour taste.
Beyond its flavor, mango is also packed with health benefits. It is rich in vitamin C, which helps boost the immune system, and vitamin A, essential for eye health. Mangoes also contain dietary fiber that aids digestion, as well as antioxidants that help protect the body from harmful free radicals. Additionally, the fruit provides natural energy, making it a refreshing and nutritious choice during the hot summer months.
With prices becoming more affordable and supply at its peak, many consumers are taking advantage of the season to enjoy one of the Philippines’ most beloved fruits.
