A woman in her 30s has died after reportedly self-administering Tirzepatide, a prescription medication intended for diabetes and weight management, which she allegedly purchased online without medical supervision.
According to a healthcare worker involved in her care, the patient was initially brought to the hospital due to palpitations. Laboratory tests later revealed serious complications, prompting immediate admission. Her condition rapidly worsened, leading to multiple organ failure and transfer to the intensive care unit (ICU).
Doctors attempted dialysis to remove the drug from her system, but she was only able to undergo one session due to her weakened condition. She was later intubated and died after a week in the ICU. A case study on the incident is reportedly being prepared.
The case has raised concerns over the dangers of purchasing prescription medications online and the risks of self-medication without proper medical supervision.
