Governor Pamela Baricuatro called on Cebuanos to unite and support preparations for the upcoming Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit, stressing that the success of the event depends on both organizers and the public.
Cebu is set to host regional leaders on May 7 and 8, positioning the province at the center of a major diplomatic gathering.
Baricuatro highlighted the significance of the opportunity, noting that Cebu is the only province outside the capital region chosen to host the event.
“This is a golden opportunity to shine Cebu’s hospitality, culture, and organizational excellence on the world stage,” she said.
The governor urged residents to extend courtesy and assistance to visiting delegates, media, and tourists expected to arrive for the summit.
She also emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness in public spaces, encouraging proper waste disposal and responsible behavior as the province prepares to welcome international guests.
With security and logistics measures in place, the provincial government warned of possible traffic disruptions and road adjustments during the summit period.
Baricuatro asked the public to remain patient, plan their travel ahead, and follow advisories issued by authorities to help ensure smooth operations.
She also underscored the need for discipline and cooperation, noting that public behavior will reflect Cebu’s readiness as host.
“Long-term impacts of our collective efforts will be felt in Cebu’s trade and tourism, continuing to elevate our economy and prestige,” she said.
Officials expressed confidence that with public cooperation, Cebu can deliver a successful hosting that leaves a positive impression on visiting leaders and delegates. (SBA)
