A cityscape of tightened security, coordinated teams, and warm welcomes defined Cebu this week as the Philippines closed the 48th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings with organizers crediting “bayanihan” and whole-of-nation cooperation for a smooth execution.

The ASEAN 2026 National Organizing Council–Office of the Director-General for Operations (ASEAN NOC-ODGO), under the Office of the President, said the successful staging reflected Filipino hospitality and collective effort across government, private partners, and local communities.

Officials said the preparations and on-ground operations were carried out through close coordination among national government agencies, security and protocol teams, healthcare and emergency responders, media personnel, logistics groups, and volunteers.

They said these combined efforts ensured the “smooth and seamless conduct” of summit meetings and side events held across Cebu, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, and Cordova.

ASEAN NOC Director-General for Operations Hellen B. De La Vega said the outcome reflected shared commitment and coordination across sectors.

“We are deeply grateful to every agency, partner, worker, volunteer, and especially the people of Cebu, whose dedication and support allowed us to showcase the best of the Filipino spirit to ASEAN and the world,” De La Vega said.

The organizing council said the Tri-City area of Cebu played a central role in hosting the event, with local governments providing early and sustained support from the planning stage up to execution.

It cited the Provincial Government of Cebu, Cebu City Government, Lapu-Lapu City Government, Mandaue City Government, and the Municipality of Cordova for their coordination and readiness, which helped accommodate the influx of delegates and international guests.

Private sector participation also supported the summit’s logistics and hospitality requirements.

Organizers acknowledged Megaworld Corporation and The Mactan Newtown, along with hotels, venues, tourism stakeholders, and mobility partners that handled accommodation and transport needs for visiting delegations.

The council also credited MSMEs, cultural performers, media organizations, production teams, service providers, and frontline workers, saying their contributions shaped the overall execution of the regional gathering.

De La Vega extended particular appreciation to residents across Cebu for their cooperation amid traffic rerouting and heightened security measures.

“Most especially, we thank the people of Cebu, particularly the residents of Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, and Cordova, for your patience, discipline, understanding, and wholehearted support throughout the Summit,” she said.

Organizers said the summit, held under the theme “Navigating Our Future, Together,” demonstrated ASEAN’s shared direction amid global economic and security challenges.

They said the Philippines would carry forward its ASEAN Chairmanship in 2026 with renewed focus on cooperation, resilience, and regional engagement, anchored on the outcomes of the Cebu meetings.
