Barangay Marigondon turned streets into a cultural showcase and walked away with the top prize in a citywide design competition tied to the 48th ASEAN Summit 2026 in Lapu-Lapu City.

The barangay secured first place in the “Mugna: Street Design Competition,” which highlighted culture, heritage, creativity, and community participation through public art installations using sustainable and locally sourced materials.

Eleven barangays joined the contest, transforming their streets into themed cultural displays meant to welcome ASEAN delegates and visitors with visual storytelling rooted in local identity and tradition.

Organizers said the initiative formed part of the summit’s cultural presentation efforts and aimed to showcase the artistry and hospitality of Mactan communities to an international audience.

The project was supported through the Office of the First Lady Lisa Araneta-Marcos and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), in coordination with the City Government of Lapu-Lapu led by Mayor Cynthia “Cindi” Chan.

Other winning entries included Barangay Ibo in second place, Barangay Pajo in third, Barangay Punta Engaño in fourth, and Barangay Buaya in fifth.

Officials said the competition turned barangay streets into “living canvases” that reflected local pride and strengthened community participation during the ASEAN hosting period.
