A portion of the road near Mahiga Creek, particularly the northbound lane, has been temporarily closed starting May 12, 2026, to give way to bridge rehabilitation and elevation works.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will lead the project, which is expected to be completed by November this year.

Mandaue Traffic Enforcement Agency (TEAM) head Hyll Retuya said motorists should expect heavier traffic, especially on the first day of implementation.

“Expect ta og medyo traffic-traffic especially kay first day no,” Retuya said.

He said the project aims to address flooding in the area by elevating the bridge.

Retuya also said TEAM has coordinated with the Cebu City Traffic Office (CCTO) to manage traffic flow during the construction period.

He clarified that vehicles coming from Cebu City going to Mandaue City will still be allowed to pass through the area.

“They have all the access, makasulod ra sila,” he said.

However, vehicles traveling from Mandaue City to Cebu City will be diverted to alternative routes identified by traffic authorities.

These include routes via Logarta Avenue, Gatewalk Ayala Road, and a right turn toward Panagdait going into Cebu City.

“First ang sa Logarta, leading to Logarta Avenue, and kaning sa Gatewalk Ayala Road. Also, another option will be katong mu right turn ka padung sa Panagdait mao nay gawasanan nimo sa Cebu City,” Retuya said.

Public utility jeepneys (PUJs) and buses are exempted from rerouting and will continue to follow their usual routes.

“Kini sila I understand naa ni silay mga travel line, dili ni nato sila pwede i divert. Mao lang ni sila ang makagawas gikan sa Mandaue City,” he said.

Private vehicles, motorcycles, taxis, and ride-hailing units are required to use the designated alternative routes when heading to Cebu City.

Retuya warned that vehicles that mistakenly enter restricted routes may face violations, which will be enforced by the Cebu City Traffic Office.

“Even motorcycles mu divert na siya kay once naay masaag didto, dakop na sa CCTO kung muggawas,” he said.

Traffic enforcers will be deployed at key points, including the Subangdaku bridge, to guide motorists and prevent congestion.

Retuya added that similar traffic arrangements will remain in place once rehabilitation works extend to the southbound lane. (VCL)
