The city government has released a total of P677,000 in cash incentives to local athletes who won medals in the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) 2026, while also formally sending off its delegation to the upcoming Palarong Pambansa.

The awarding ceremony was held Thursday, May 14, at the Sangguniang Panlungsod Session Hall, where medalists from various events in the regional meet received their incentives based on performance.

Gold medalists received P5,000 each, silver medalists were given P3,000, while bronze medalists received P1,000.

The CVIRAA 2026 competition was held in Naga City, Cebu, where Lapu-Lapu City athletes competed in multiple sporting events before advancing qualifiers for the national level.

The same event also served as a send-off ceremony for athletes representing the city in the Palarong Pambansa.

Mayor Ma. Cynthia “Cindi” King-Chan encouraged the athletes to uphold discipline and sportsmanship as they prepare for national competition.

“Beyond the medals, I want you to remember that your character is what defines you. Play with integrity, fight with courage, and respect your opponents,” King-Chan said.

Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Ronald Ferrer also reminded the delegates that character and discipline remain important regardless of competition results.
