Malacañang on Thursday dismissed Vice President Sara Duterte’s allegations that there are moves to extend President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s term beyond 2028 through Charter change, saying the claims have no basis.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro responded to Duterte’s remarks, which linked recent political developments to what she described as efforts to weaken the opposition and keep the President in power beyond his six-year mandate.
“Mas nakakahiya sa ngayon ang magkomento pa sa mga walang basehan at walang sustansyang pahayag ni VP Sara Duterte,” Castro said.
Duterte earlier alleged that discussions on Charter change, her possible impeachment, and the enforcement of International Criminal Court-related warrants against her allies formed part of a coordinated political effort targeting the opposition.
She also claimed that the administration was using government resources for what she described as a “demolition job,” adding that these moves could eventually lead to constitutional changes that would extend presidential power.
The Vice President cited President Marcos’ recent Bloomberg interview, where he mentioned Charter change discussions, as an indication that he intends to remain in office beyond his term.
Castro rejected these claims and described them as misinformation.
“Ang kailangan natin ay isang public servant na nagseserbisyo sa bayan at taumbayan at hindi yung ang alam lang ay gumawa ng intriga at fake news,” she said.
Malacañang did not provide additional details on Duterte’s statements but maintained that the allegations lack factual basis.
